"It's Not What You’re Teaching...It's What They're Learning! Understanding the Learning Mindsets of Students, Faculty-Discussion Series", the final session in a 4-part lunchtime series, facilitated by Jeff Porter, John Weas and Sidonie Roepke. This series has focused on helping faculty gain greater insights into how we can foster enhanced learning by delving into the "learning mindsets" that students bring to our classrooms-how to understand them and how to cultivate the best environments for their ongoing growth. Even if you have missed the workshop series, view the Learning Mindsets web page and jump into the discussion.

Friday -- January 30

"The Press-ing Issue of Book Publication--Meet the Editors", in collaboration with the Institute Writing Committee, will feature four national editors from Oxford, Cornell, Rutgers, and NYU Presses. If you want to write and publish a book, but have no idea where to start, this is for you. These editors work on the other side of the mysterious publishing world--and they will be here to de-mystify the process leading to publication. Plus, our own published RIT faculty will talk about their success and offer more advice from the point of view of the author. Starting at 9:00 am, Dr. Chris Licata will kick off the morning, followed by comments from Deans Ulin and Walker, leading into the editors' panel. Don't miss this opportunity to hear directly from the editors of university presses and successful RIT authors! The session runs 9:00 am - 12:30 pm; participants must register. Register now

Fridays -- March 13 & 20, April 3

"Teaching for Understanding", a 3-session workshop facilitated by Joan Hoffman, Vice President for Education at Strong National Museum of Play, is a highly participatory workshop series to introduce you to the Teaching for Understanding framework originally developed at Harvard’s Project Zero. You will develop engaging and innovative new strategies for teaching your course content. Multiple intelligences-based techniques will help you plan and implement instructional strategies that require your students to think, analyze, solve problems, and make meaning out of their learning. We guarantee your time will be well spent and you will emerge from the series invigorated, energized and ready to go! The Friday sessions run 1 - 5 pm. Space is limited. Register now

Wednesday-Thursday -- May 27-28

"Faculty Institute on Teaching and Learning (FITL) 2009". Save the Date! FITL 2009 (RIT's annual conference on teaching and learning) remains focused on YOU and your success. Our planning committee is busy drafting the call for proposals and identifying external presenters and facilitators with a special emphasis on innovation. We are delighted that professor Donna A. Dickson, CAST, will lead an experiential workshop on fostering innovation in your teaching and scholarship at FITL this year. Part 1 of her three-part monograph entitled "Fostering Innovation at RIT -- Understanding Innovation and Unique Styles of Innovation" will be posted on the FITL web site in the near future. After reading -- start thinking and planning to participate in FITL on May 27-28. Look for Parts 2 and 3 of Dickson's monograph and a FITL call for proposals soon.
